A second phase of the Huduma Number registration process will kick off in May. The government spokesman Cyrus Oguna announced today stating that the exercise will kick off in early May.
Oguna said that moving forward, the exercise will continue just the same way the Identity Card process is done. While speaking to Journalists in Nairobi, Oguna stated that during the first phase, 37 million people were registered of whom 20 million were adults and 17 million below the age of 18 years. He went ahead to urge those who missed during the first phase not to worry because the second phase will be underway
“This is why we are saying if you missed on the first phase please don’t worry because we are launching the second phase at the end of April this year,” said Oguna.
He went ahead and said that 2.2 million had been sent text messages to pick their cards but only 300,000 had turned up. He added that the card collection process is free and no one should be asked to pay anything whatsoever. Noting that the cards are only being issued to those above 18 years, those below that age will get it when they attain it.
“We are kindly appealing to those who have received the messages to please respond and pick their cards so that we can clear the backlog. The process of collecting these cards is free and nobody should be asked to pay any money. The messages for collection of the cards are not sent from a normal telephone number but a unique one,” he concluded.
