The national chairman of Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Mr Elijah Teya Sitimah, today launched the upgraded IHRM website to aid in the identification and removal of fake HR practitioners who have flooded the Human Resource sector in Kenya. Besides the website, the institute recently established the compliance office to deal with over 20,000 HR professionals in the country and as a strategy to deal with unqualified HR consultants masquerading as professionals to unsuspecting Kenyans.
The institute also stated clearly that they are aware of an even bigger problem in the Gulf States where Kenyans continue to work in terrible conditions ,where they are enslaved and their documents confiscated by their employers in cahoots with employment agencies in the country. The launch of this website supplements the efforts of the Ministry of Labour in dealing with rogue recruitment agencies through the recently published regulations aimed at taming mischievous agencies.
The website offers a public facility where on one click of a button one can confirm who is a genuine HR practitioner in the country before seeking his or her services.
All HR practitioners were urged to register with the body by January next year and the process will be automated, “The deadline will not be extended and those who will not have registered will be debarred,” said the chairman.
According to the National Chairman Mr Elijah Teya, “Launching of the website will assist in the registration and also professional development of the HR practitioners.” The Institute also expressed an interest in decentralising the headquarters, stationing it on a regional basis.
Those who will be found practising without certification will be charged a fine of ksh.400, 000 or face an imprisonment of two years or both. The institute has also initiated a process of informing all its partners who will employ HR practitioners through writing, to observe provisions of the Human Resource Management Professionals Act 2012 by only accepting services of those who are registered in the institute’s register.
