Barely a month after Form One students reported to school, a pupil from Kakamega County Nazline Amolo walked all the way from her home County to St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls school in Webuye East Constituency to search for education without fees.
Nazline who comes from a humble family with a single parent who is her mother got 358 marks in Kakamega Primary school and secured a chance to join Form One in St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls and due to poverty she could not manage to raise anything leave alone fees but because of education hunger she woke up in the morning and left from outskirts of Kakamega town to Misikhu and she arrived late in the evening without fees and anything only an old empty box ready to try her lack of she could be admitted.
”I come from a single parent family and my mother tried her best to take me to school but unfortunately she can’t manage secondary school fees so I left her without even informing her to come to this school to try my luck but because I arrived in the evening I went straight to the Principal’s office and lucky I got her and explained my problem, she allowed me to stay and go back home the following day, ” said Nazline.
Luckily, the following day Form One parents were coming for Form One orientation and the Principal Mrs. Beatrice Ingonga presented her case to parents who sympathized with her and decided in unison to contribute for her education.
“I was prepared to go home but the next day the Principal with a motherly love told me to wait as she presents my problem to the Form One parents who had come for orientation day and God did his miracles and they started contribution and within thirty minutes a full year’s fees was raised plus cash to buy few personal effects, am deeply happy and I know my dream will be realized, I just don’t know how I would thank these parents, ” said Nazline.
Nazline Amolo wants to be a neurosurgeon after completing her education but her dream could still be cut short if she will not get support of the remaining three years she will be in St. Cecelia Misikhu Girls and therefore she is appealing to the government, well-wishers and friends to come in and support her fulfill her dream.
“Though am happy but it can be short lived since I still remain with three years fees and anyone willing to help is welcome so that I can finish my high school studies and accomplish my goal of being a neurosurgeon and come back to help the community and the country at large, ” added Nazline.
The school principal Mrs. Beatrice Ingonga who said chasing the girl away would have tormented her and she would end up ruining her life and therefore she had to find a way of keeping her in school.
”She came in my office looking tired but deep down her heart you could feel the hunger of education, I welcomed her and the following day I informed Form One parents of her problem and we ended up contributing more than forty five thousand which will keep her in school for one full year, she will manage to get pocket money and other items that would help her,” said Mrs. Ingonga.
However, Mrs. Ingonga who is set to retire at the end of this year says it’s not yet done because she has only been helped for one year and appealed for help from Kakamega County government and well wishers to come in and help the girl who she described as hardworking and ready to learn.
Some parents who talked to the press said such students should be supported as they have shown interest in education and some promised to continue helping her however small which could not be enough and asked the government to chip in so that the girl can settle in school and concentrate in her studies without interference.
