Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has hit back at President Uhuru Kenyatta refuting claims that he had helped him clinch the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. The head of State in an interview with Kikuyu radio stations this morning alleged that he had helped the impeached governor secure the capital’s county seat.
“For the record, it is not Uhuru Kenyatta who made me the Governor of Nairobi. I was validly elected by close to one million residents of Nairobi,” he said.
The two have been in tussles for some time now, with Sonko boldly hitting back at the head of state today claiming he was telling lies.
The president had earlier on admitted to instigating Sonko’s removal from office due to his leadership style and being in conflict with everyone. He had also said, despite aiding him grab the top county seat, Sonko ended up doing nothing.
In the past election, Sonko garnered a bold 871, 794 votes in Nairobi while Uhuru got 779,299 votes in the same county. With this, Sonko put it clear that he even beat the president in the capital and that Governors are not presidential appointees.
