The Bungoma County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training, Dr. David Wamamili Wanyonyi has disassociated himself from the entire ongoing process of hiring ECDE teachers accusing the County Public Service Board of not fully involving him in the process.
Speaking to West Media, Dr. Wamamili said since the commencement of the exercise, the Board has been reluctant to give him entire information and has disregarded advice from his department, hinting that the Board may have hidden agenda regarding the teacher recruitment process.
“The list of teachers to be interviewed has been released by the Public Service Board, but it hasn’t reached me officially yet. I don’t agree with this direction because it’s my department that announced the hiring, and since then, the Public Service Board hasn’t made time to talk to me. Every time I go there, it’s as if they’re not ready for discussion. I know my department understands the curriculum issues, and if there are any aspects they haven’t considered, I don’t think I’ll support proceeding in this manner. I am treating the list as rumors.” Asserted Wamamili
“Certainly, there’s something they’re hiding, and I want to know. I won’t be pushed in that direction. I’ve been trying to talk to them all along to see how the work will proceed.”He said
The CEC has reiterated that he will not support the process unless the Board fully adheres to the recruitment regulations.
“They might continue with hiring teachers, but if they do, I foresee challenges, and there’s no need to escalate matters to that level. There’s still room, let’s talk and ensure that certain issues are addressed. If those issues aren’t considered and they proceed with the work, I won’t support it, and I’m ready to write to the finance department saying those funds should be directed to something different. I will not accept it,” the CEC added
“I’ve written more than three letters to the CPSB, and they haven’t responded in an acceptable manner, a way that shows we’re in the same government. I’m not ready to sit and watch things go astray. I am in charge of this department, and they should recognize that. I’ll respect their position too; this was supposed to be a mutual agreement on how teachers’ recruitment would be done.” He concluded
This comes after the County Public Service Board through its Secretary and CEO announced today the interview dates for shortlisted candidates and the venue of interviews.
The advertisement of vacant positions of ECDE teachers (Diploma) 90 posts and (Certificate) 110 posts was made on Wednesday October 25th 2023.
