Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Authority has issued computers and other accessories to Vihiga County government in a bid to improve service delivery and access to information by the citizens.
The ICT authority distributed 30 computers, 30 Uninterrupted Power Supplies and ten printers to the county government.
ICT officer Tony Otieno said the project is financed by the World Bank in partnership with National government to all counties in Kenya.
“The project dubbed ‘smart county project’ will help in ICT adaptation within the County,” said Otieno.
He said the devices were distributed to the finance, public service and planning departments in County government to help boost efficiency and service delivery.
Otieno said the computers will help in the digitization and availing information to the public through county informal portal and improve access to information.
Vihiga Deputy County director of ICT Morris Shiera thanked the authority and government for the good gesture and promised to work hand in hand in undertaking ICT projects.
“We are committed to work with the National government and any ICT initiated project will be fully supported by the county government,” promised Shiera.
He said the project would supplement their effort to have the departments fully IT compliant and added that more input should be put in place to improve the IT infrastructure.
“We also need new ICT innovations that would help us set up new modalities and keeping in pace with modern changing technology,” said Shiera.
The ICT officials were speaking during the handing over of the devices to the County government at County’s headquarters in Mbale town.
The ICT authority is also undertaking a project that would see all counties connected with fiber network for speedy internet connections and improve access to digital information.
The computers were branded with ICT authority label to differentiate it with other computers and for easy identification as a ‘smart county project’.
