ICT CS Joe Mucheru has reiterated the importance of online jobs, a sector that is daily benefitting the youth in Kenya. CS Mucheru said a significant amount of awareness needs to be created as there is plenty of work online that people can do. “People think that if you do jobs online, it’s not real work,” he said. Many youths are currently turning to online jobs to earn a living, a deviation from the trend of waiting for white collar jobs. Among the government’s Big Four Pillars is Manufacturing, which seeks to factor in the issue of provision of employment and boost Kenya’s production sector.
CS Mucheru said one can make good money from online jobs and the government’s taxation won’t impede them. “They don’t have to pay their taxes in the normal way, they pay a one-off of Kshs 10,000 in a whole year and they earn even a million or two million or ten million, whatever it is they want to earn and they won’t be taxed more…” he noted. However, it remains to be seen whether the online platform will continue being productive, with the clamour for the online platform increasing.
