Electoral body IEBC has moved the date set for the presidential polls to 26th October 2017, from the earlier stipulated date of 17th October. According to the fresh update, the commission is still reviewing the Supreme Court’s detailed judgment delivered on Wednesday, 20th September, “There is no doubt that the judgment impacts on the election operations and in particular technology to be deployed.”
In a statement from IEBC, the commission has further stated that they need time to prepare to meet the standards set by the Supreme Court. The commission is set to issue further details on the state of preparedness on Friday, 22nd September. President Uhuru Kenyatta has pledged to support IEBC to ensure fresh presidential elections are held, as Kenyans gear up for another tough face-off between President Kenyatta and NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
