IEBC to issue Mariga decision on Monday

The fate of former Harambee Stars football player McDonald Mariga will be made known on Monday by IEBC, after he appealed the decision to disqualify him from the Kibra parliamentary seat race. vying on a Jubilee ticket. Mariga appeared before the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee on Friday to present his petition against the invalidation of his candidature. The tribunal is led by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Returning officer Beatrice Muli invalidated his candidature on Tuesday, saying his details couldn’t be found on the voter’s register. However, in his petition, Mariga said the decision to invalidate his candidature violates his rights and fundamental freedoms protected by the Constitution and the Elections Act. He affirmed that he is a registered voter, contrary to the earlier revelation, “I registered as a voter on 26th August 2019 at Kariakor Social Hall Polling Station in Starehe constituency and I was issued with an acknowledgement slip….” he revealed in an affidavit.
