An aspirant in Vihiga County was turned away by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for failing to meet the threshold set out by the body before a candidate is allowed to contest.
Milicent Olisa who is vying for Woman representative position on Mwangaza Daima Party was turned away in the evening session when she presented her papers at Chavakali High School.
She said the IEBC refused to accept her papers because her name had not been uploaded to the electoral agency records by her party.
“I have called my party and expressed the concern. I hope by today, my name will appear in the IEBC database,” said a calm Olisa.
The area county returning officer Sarah Ogaro directed the aspirant to correct the anomaly and come back today before 4pm to be cleared.
She appealed to her supporters to remain calm and added that she must be on the ballot box come next general elections.
Another aspirant Beatrice Adagala who is vying for the same seat on Amani National Congress (ANC) party was cleared.
Adagala who showed sign of a confidence said she will beat other contestants to emerge the winner and asked the electorates to elect her as the next woman representative in the area.
“I have now hit the road for campaigns in full swing. I plead with the youth not to be used by selfish politicians to cause chaos during political drives,” appealed Adagala.
Adagala said she would uplift the living standards of the vulnerable group once elected and empower women to improve their source of income for sustainable development.
The current outgoing woman representative Dorcas Kedogo is going for Vihiga MP Seat on ODM ticket.
