International peace day is usually observed globally every year on 21st September. This day was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. The day aims in strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non- violence and cease fire. This day facilitates peace in the world by invoking people to uphold peace, live and act together when united in differences and diversity in building sustainable world of peace.
All nations are invited by The United Nations to honour the day. Each year a different theme is promoted and national awareness created.
Today being 21st September 2022 the theme is “END RACISM, BUILD PEACE”. The main objective of this year’s theme is to treat all races equally and to promote peace among them.
