The National Construction Authority (NCA) has launched an investigation into an incident where a building under construction collapsed in Vihiga County killing one and leaving dozens with serious injuries last week.
The (NCA) Executive Director Eng. Maurice Aketch’s team accessed the area noting that investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The entrance of the new morgue which has been under construction from early this year collapsed last Sunday evening.
Aketch said they are going to work with other agencies and come out with a clear report over the possible cause of the collapse of the gate.
“From our own assessment, the collapsed structure is an entrance to the facility being constructed. Coming here together gives us the opportunity to collaborate and work as a team. Being a public project, there is need to ensure detailed investigations are carried out for the sake of allowing the project to proceed into completion,” he noted
The team comprises of a technical team in construction which includes the Manager Compliance, Head of Compliance & Oversight, Secretary National Building Inspectorate and the Director of Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo said that the team is composed of a fully fledged Technical Arm of the Construction Industry and they should give a reliable report and recommendations.
The County Boss condoled with the family of one of the workers who lost his life at the site adding that those who sustained injuries are still recuperating at Vihiga County Referral Hospital.
