The former head of Athletics Kenya Isaiah Kiplagat has passed away aged 72. Mr. Kiplagat died from cancer related complications. He was at the helm as Kenyan athletes established themselves in the athletics world through the years. At the time of his demise, Isaiah Kiplagat had been serving a suspension given by IAAF that was meant to last 180 days, along with two other officials, David Okeyo and Joseph Kinyua. Kiplagat was accused of accepting, personally or on behalf of Athletics Kenya, a gift of two motor vehicles from the Qatar Association of Athletics Federations from 2014 to 2015.
He didn’t get the chance to fully celebrate Kenya’s heroics at the Rio Olympics with the victors, with the full team yet to converge in the country, considering that the just concluded games ranked among the best for Kenyan sportsmen and women. He not only worked with Athletics Kenya, but also was involved with the IAAF as a member of the technical committee.
