Items stolen by robbers nabbed in Kitale recovered
Police in Kitale have managed to recover stolen goods worth million of Kenyan Shillings following the arrest of four suspected robbers in Kitale Trans Nzoia County.
According to Trans Nzoia County commander Mrs. Lillian Okembo, after the arrest of the suspects in Kitale, they were moved to their hide out in Eldoret town where they recovered house hold goods, furniture, electronics and other stolen items.
The four suspects who include Richard Nyakundi alias Chot, Eric Abuga, Lydia Moraa and Julita Nangekhe are being held by police as they continue with investigations concerning their illegal deals.
Mrs. Okembo disclosed that among the four suspects one Richard Nyakundi alias Chot was among the hard core criminals that were most wanted by police as he had been involved in a series of robberies with violence in several areas and he was out on bond over the same crimes he committed in Kisii
He said that the suspect was a former Kenya air force officer and his work was terminated after the attempted overthrow of the Government in the year 1982 and has all the skills on fire arm operation as well the expertise when it comes to committing crimes.
She said his accomplice Eric Abuga was specialized in house breaking and well versed in machine operations which entails operation of padlocks and modifying of master keys that were complicated.
Another suspect Lydia Moraa, Okembo said was used to as a decoy in the public eyes and also fed other suspects where they could strike
“This lady called Moraa looks young but she is the wife of Nyakundi and this makes the public not to suspect their deeds, she usually moves to find out the places where they can hit,” she said.
The county commandant disclosed that the preliminary report they gathered from the suspects has revealed that the suspects normally carry out their crimes during day time when most of the owners of plots and owners of the estates are at work.
The police commander said that they recovered many items which the suspects had stolen and hidden them in Eldoret where they normally operate from with the car that was among the most wanted by police that was bearing registration numbers KBY 892S which the police boss disclosed had been involved in a series of crimes within the county and it had been taken to the KRA Offices to find out its authenticity.
She said that she received numerous complaints from petrol stations reporting about the presence of the car which had been fueling in some petrol without the occupants paying the bill and basing on such reports, investigations had been going on and the car was a marked one.
The county commander said so far more than fifteen people had arrived at the station and identified their properties and will help police when they will be finally be presented in the court of law.
They gave an account of how their properties lost from their homes under unclear circumstances as some explained how they left their home for work and when they came back from their work they were astonished to find out that their properties had been stolen by the robbers.
“I left for my job in town and when I came back I was surprised on learning that all my properties was stolen”, said Wekesa, one of the victims.
Another victim Jane Wangeci described how she lost her properties when she had left her home under the guard of a house maid who the robbers attacked and got away with the properties worth thousands of shillings.
She said the robbers broke into her house and stole all the valuables within the house and thanked the police for the effort they made in apprehending criminals as a way of salvaging the properties.
