As the August polls fast approaches, the government and the Media Council of Kenya has assured journalists of their security as they carry out their duties during the exercise.
Bungoma County Commissioner Samwel Kimiti and Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo in a meeting with Bungoma and a section of Trans Nzoia County scribes said the journalists need to be granted ample time to carry out their duties.
Mr. Kimiti said they will ensure the journalists are not intimidated as they have the role of informing the public of what is happening and have a right to move across the County.
Mr. Omwoyo said previously the Council had received reports on threats to journalists saying some have been dealt with saying moving forward the safety of journalists must be guaranteed.
Kibabii university Vice Chancellor Professor Odeo Ipara applauding the journalists saying they have been handy in informing the public on what has been happening.
However, he called upon them to sharpen their skills further in the field especially while using Kiswahili language.
