The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in collaboration with the County government of Kakamega has agreed to set up a Court in Likuyani Sub County.
Speaking in Kongoni, the County Chief Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Land, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical planning Robert Kundu Makhanu disclosed that the JSC had mandated the County government with the task of allocating land where the court will be constructed.
He said that after consultation between Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Chief Justice David Maraga, the CJ okayed the plan to have a fully fledged magistrate Court in the sub county.
The CEC said his department has identified two locations; one in Likuyani ward and another one in Kongoni ward with the JSC team expected to tour the two sites and choose a suitable one.
He further revealed that the national government has already allocated Kshs 30 million towards the construction of the Court.
Makhanu hailed the move, saying besides helping reduce criminal activities and travelling expenses incurred by residents when called to appear before or testify against cases at Eldoret Courts, the presence of a Court will also have positive economic ramification in the area.
“The Court will also open business opportunities for our people and thereby contribute toward the County government’s revenue collection kitty,” noted Makhanu who urged Likuyani residents to embrace and support the plan.
