The move by TNA, URP and other parties that are affiliated to Jubilee to dissolve and form a single party in preparation for the 2017 general elections is another step taken to bring unity in the country, bearing in mind that the country will remain a multiparty state. The formation of the Jubilee Alliance party has been termed by the opposition as a move by the state to kill the democracy in the country. This comes after the laid down marker that parties joining JAP they will be required to dissolve their political parties and form a single political party. Others are terming the move as a way of downgrading the efforts of those who championed for a multiparty state.
Unity in any nation will be promoted by leaders who have a common interest and work as a team for the betterment of the citizens, political parties are just an avenue to access power but in our country, leaders have been using parties to divide the nation through ethnic lines, many parties have been formed based on tribal lines and no one is willing to allow another person to out shine him or her politically.
A state with many parties is like a polygamous family, where conflicts are common and the co-wives unwittingly include their children in the wrangles which at the end of the day lead to zero gains. We experienced conflicts in the coalition government whereby every party tried to show its supremacy. It is difficult to make vital decisions that affect the life of the Mwananchi because of one’s unwavering party interests.
The dissolving of parties to form Jubilee Alliance Party is a good move which is aimed at bringing the solidarity of the nation.
It’s high time Kenyans work hand in hand with visionary leaders who have realistic strategies that are aimed at transforming the economic, political and social state of the Nation.
