Jubilee members from West Pokot County have protested over a perceived unfairness in awarding nomination slots and they’ve threatened to ditch the party if the matter will not be addressed.
They accused Jubilee County officials and leaders of offering the slots to cronies and relatives. A section of leaders, youths and nomination losers have complained saying those picked for nominations for various seats did not merit because they were picked courtesy of their links to party officials and politicians in the County.
Speaking to the Press in Kapenguria, the Jubilee members gave out a one-week ultimatum to the Jubilee top officials to address the matter or they mobilize the community to decamp from the party.
They want President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to intervene in the matter or they join another party.
They mentioned Sigor, Pokot South and Kapenguria constituencies as the most affected where area members of parliament awarded the slots to their close associates.
They cited that the list of members slots submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission [IEBC ] that appeared on air wasn’t good as it favoured friends and relatives of area politicians.
Led by former Lomut Councilor Musa Telekezi, who lost in the Jubilee primaries, the leaders alleged that the distribution of the slots did not reflect the real picture of the County. “One of the nominees dates the area member of parliament and another is the wife of the MP,” he said.
Mr. Tekelezi said that they’ve used their resources in the Jubilee party hence have been sidelined. “Member of county assembly should do oversight and ensure that needy children from poor families benefit. Why should children of the rich get the funds?” he posed.
