Confusion has marred Jubilee nominations in West Pokot County as voting materials have delayed. Residents started streaming at the polling stations from 5am in the morning but at 9am, the party official in charge of the exercise had not arrived.
Douglas Migiro a voter at Makutano primary polling station said that they are disappointed that the party is not well prepared for the exercise.
They called on the party to postpone the exercise to avoid irregularities. “People have started going back home because they have waited for long and nothing is taking place. We haven’t seen any official here,” said Migiro.
A spot check in most polling stations like Makutano Primary school, Nasokol Primary School, Murkwijit Center and St. Mary’s primary school revealed that no voting was going on.
Meanwhile, Kacheliba member of parliament Mark Lomunokol has defected from the Jubilee party citing lack of democracy and a complete lack of an enabling environment in the party nominations for Kacheliba constituency. Lomunokol said that he will announce his next move later.
In Sigor Constituency residents said that voting materials for the parliamentary seat were missing. “We have not seen the voting material for the parliamentary seat,” said Musa Tekelezi, a Lomut ward Jubilee aspirant.
The Jubilee nomination is set to be hotly contested in Sigor constituency where the incumbent MP Phillip Rotino will face off with former Kapenguria Principal Peter Lochakapong.
KANU parliamentary primaries for Kacheliba and Kapenguria have been postponed. However, the Sigor and Kapenguria nominations for parliamentary and Women Representative respectively are ongoing.
