Kabuchai Constituency Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga strongly criticized Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party, for proposing the removal of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). Kalasinga argued that this proposal would undermine development efforts in rural areas, particularly by depriving Kenyans in these regions of vital resources meant to drive local progress.
The statement was made during a ceremony where Kalasinga distributed bursary cheques to students from his constituency. The bursaries, worth a total of 40 million shillings, were awarded to over 11,000 students, enabling them to continue their education. Many students and their families expressed their gratitude for the financial support, which has been crucial in enabling them to pursue their academic goals.
During his speech, Kalasinga addressed the potential consequences of Odinga’s proposal, which he believes would deny millions of Kenyans, particularly those living in rural areas, the opportunity to benefit from projects funded through the NG-CDF. These projects, which include local infrastructure developments, education bursaries, and community programs, are seen as essential for improving the livelihoods of Kenyans in underserved areas.
Kalasinga also referenced concerns raised by the Office of the Auditor-General regarding delays in the submission of project documentation related to NG-CDF-funded initiatives. While acknowledging these concerns, the MP argued that the fund remains a critical mechanism for facilitating development at the grassroots level.
