Kaimosi Friend’s University College (KAFUCO) has been forced to change the opening dates for new students joining the institution from this month to January next year.
According to the Deputy principal in charge of Academic and Student Affairs Kennedy Ayodo, financial constraints have made them reconsider the opening dates. “We expected 686 students to report this week but the mentioned challenges have made us postpone the date first years were meant to join to January next year,” said Ayodo.
He added that 45 students have also requested for transfers to other institutions to begin their studies this September instead of next year.
He said the institution which received Kshs 120 million to facilitate the operations, factoring in new admissions, is too little and therefore this contributed to the decision to change the opening dates. “We set aside Kshs 100 million for capitation while Kshs 20 million for the recurrent expenditure,” added Ayodo.
This has forced the institution to appeal for more funding to run its operations. However, they have cleared fears of uncertainty and have also maintained that it won’t affect their academic calendar.
About 70 students who had reported are said to have undergone the registration
process ahead of the set January reporting time. The don was speaking in his offices at Kaimosi in Hamisi sub-county.
