The County government of Kakamega will compensate the victim of the accident that happened at Kaburengu on Monday. Kakamega Deputy Governor Philip Kutima, who visited those admired at Webuye County hospital, said those who are injured will get Kshs 30,000 each. Families that lost their kin will receive a total of Kshs 85,000 each.
Under that, Kshs 20,000 will cater for coffin expenses, they’ll each receive Kshs 15,000 to ferry their bodies to be buried and Kshs 50,000 each for funeral expenses. 8 people died while 14 others sustained serious injuries following the fatal road accident that involved a tipper-truck and two Nissan Matatus at Kaburengu junction along the Eldoret-Webuye Highway.
According to eye witnesses the accident occurred after the brakes of a tipper-truck that was ferrying construction materials failed as it descended the steep Chimoi slope heading towards Webuye before it lost control ploughing into a group traders and proceeded on hitting two Nissan Matatus that were picking passengers at the Kaburengu stage killing seven people on the spot leaving others with serious injuries.
The injured were rescued and rushed to Webuye sub county hospital where one was pronounced dead upon arrival bringing the total deaths to eight.
