Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has urged the national government to chip in and support in the construction of the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital. Speaking at the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Bukhungu stadium, Governor Oparanya said the hospital will have many beds, approximately 750 and the state can help, “I propose that we (the County government) collaborate with the state so that you can help us buy the equipment to help the patients we need,” said Oparanya, “We need nearly Kshs 2 billion.”
President Kenyatta accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, Health CS Sicily Kariuki, Governor Oparanya and other leaders toured the new Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital which is under construction. The Governor also pointed out that conservation efforts geared towards preserving Kakamega forest are underway, and the County administration has worked closely with the Environment CS to ensure its a success, “We have already found a sponsor who has availed Kshs 140 million to start the process of preserving the forest,” said Oparanya,a dding that if the tropical forest is preserved then it will further boost tourism in the region.
