Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has said preparations will be in top gear to ensure Kenya host a successful IAAF under 20 championships in 2020. Kenya has won the bid to host the championships, and addressing the press on Friday, Echesa said the success of last year’s IAAF under 18 championships hosted in Nairobi played a part in the monumental decision to hand Kenya the chance to host the 2020 event.
The CS said the state will continue identifying and nurturing talents and lauded Athletics Kenya for setting up a stable talent system, “I congratulate Athletics Kenya led by Jackson Tuwei for putting together a good system for identifying sportspersons for Kenya,” he said, adding that this has been the secret for Kenya’s dominance in athletics.
Echesa lauded County governments for incorporating the national government’s request to identify and nurture talent and improve sports facilities. Moreover, the Sports CS reiterated that Kenya can’t lose the bid at the moment, especially after the official IAAF council confirmed the decision.
