Kakamega County residents have been asked to be wary of unscrupulous land surveyors who are swindling millions of shillings from land owners and buyers in the County.
Speaking in Likuyani sub county, the County Executive Committee Member for Land, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical planning Robert Kundu Makhanu said that cases of rogue surveyors are rampant in the County. He regretted how the surveyors have been collecting money from land owners and buyers promising to help them get title deeds but end up giving them fake title deeds and then disappearing with the money never to be traced.
He said his office had established that there are thousands of fake title deeds in the County urging those who doubt the authenticity of their title deeds to visit his office for assistance. He stated the government will not keep silent as citizens continue being conned, warning the rogue surveyors that their days are numbered.
Acknowledging that land is a very sensitive issue in the country, the CEC appealed to residents or anyone from outside wishing to buy land in the County to first seek expert advice from government officials from the agriculture and lands departments.
