Kakamega school for the deaf is under spotlight following an incident where a standard six girl is seven months pregnant after being impregnated by one of the staff.
It is alleged that the staff takes advantage of the impairments of the girls to defile them.
The girl from Ebwambwa village of Ematiha sub location, Lurambi Sub County is now at home, with her parents after the school failed to take action against the staff that was caught red handed having carnal knowledge with the girl in an abandoned classroom at the school.
Addressing the press, her parents said that their daughter returned home one Friday morning without any explanation from the school and that later, the school called to confirm if she had arrived.

Her mother Violet Wafula stated that the school never offered a clear explanation on why their daughter came home other than saying that the girl could have felt guilty of her condition and decided to run away.
Mrs. Wafula said that when she finally visited the school, the head teacher Mr. Gibson Munaga confirmed that he was aware of the matter and asked her to calm down given that another staff had been convicted and jailed for a similar offence at the institution.
The father of the girl Ernest Aswani said that he is seeking for justice for his daughter.
Imelda, a spouse to the suspect, has admitted to having caught her husband in the act on the same Friday that the girl fled from school at around 5.30 am.
She said that she reported the case to the school head and asked for action to be taken against her husband but Mr. Munanga asked her to forgive her Husband.
Imelda confirmed that the latest incident was the fifth that her husband was involved in at the school and that she was tired of this behavior.
Dormitories are in pathetic conditions
A female staff speaking on conditions of anonymity also confirmed the incident, complaining of poor conditions of the dormitory saying that both the girls and the boys are endangered.
According to her, the school dormitory has got neither grills nor windows and instead has an open ceiling board that can allow in any unwanted visitor.
“The school lacks a reliable fence that can keep outsiders away and thus not safe for the students. The boy’s dormitory is separated from the girl’s with a wall but has an open ceiling allowing one to easily move from one side to the other.” The female staff said.
More shocking, is the revelation by the staff that before hiring of a female matron who is a few months old at the school, the suspect who is the male matron used to sleep with the girls in the same dormitory.
Students sleep on empty beds
She added that the watchman of the school who is charged with the children’s security sleeps with them at the dormitory on a decently made bed with a mattress and blanket while some children sleep on empty beds and even on the floor.
Efforts to reach the school principal for comment hit a snug after he continuously evaded the topic saying the school’s performance and enrollment had tremendously improved since he joined.
The principal says he won’t regret being sacked
He denied issue of girls getting pregnant in the school and threatened to turn violent if the press did not stop pursuing the issue using his detractors in the school.
He went ahead to use vulgar language saying that he was ready to be sacked since he runs his own businesses.
The school has a total enrollment of 73 pupils where 39 are girls while 34 are boys most of whom are borders.
At the time of westfm.co.ke visit, 19 girls were absent from school.
