It was a sad Sunday evening after students residing in Jamhuri hostel at Friends school Kamusinga lost their property worth millions of shillings in a dorm fire.
According to the principal Alex Maina, the fire broke out as the students were attending their evening lessons saying they had taken their supper without any fuss and were in class as usual when the fire incident happened, and that no student was hurt.
Bungoma County education director Jacob Onyiego said investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the fire saying it is unfortunate that only last week a similar incident was witnessed at Kapsokwony boys high school.
He called upon parents and other stakeholders to remain calm as the situation is taken care off saying they hope to contain the students in school.
Some of the parents who visited the school called for a speedy investigation in the matter saying it is unfortunate that they had invested a lot to ensure their students benefit in school and anyone found derailing the efforts should be punished.
The sentiments were echoed by Kimilili Sub County parents association chairman Christopher Tenge who urged the parents to remain calm as the matter is being investigated.
