Jubilee leaders in West Pokot county have castigated the move by KANU to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid in the next polls terming it as a political move targeting the 2022 elections.
The leaders observed that KANU will not win any seat in the country adding the former ruling party wants to use the Jubilee wave to win the August elections adding that it has no value to the Jubilee bandwagon.
Led by West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin, Pokot South Member of parliament David Pkossing and Jubilee senatorial hopeful Julius Murgor, the leaders called on the independence party leadership to dissolve the party and join the new Jubilee party.
They said KANU has no chance in 2022 and Jubilee will treat the independence party as the opposition.
The leaders urged the party not to field any candidate in the country citing that recently they refused to join Jubilee when other parties dissolved to join the party. “We told them but they didn’t want to. What we were telling them has now hit their senses,” said Kachapin, “They are confused because you cannot say you support Uhuru and not his Deputy,” he added.
Kachapin who ditched KANU and joined Jubilee, said Gideon Moi has no leadership qualities to unite Kenyans.
Speaking in Konyao, Kachapin said the independence party has no agenda for the country.
“We don’t want the support of KANU. In 2013, we made it without their support,” said Pkossing.
Mr. Pkossing said KANU supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta without supporting deputy president Ruto was an insult to the president given that he has trusted his deputy. He said that KANU is afraid of the fact that Jubilee may field stronger candidates in West Pokot and Baringo counties.
