KANU leaders from West Pokot have asked residents to remain calm as they wait for IEBC to complete tallying of the results.
Speaking to press at county tallying centre at Mtelo hall, the leaders said tallying of the results was slow and was causing anxiety in the country.
The leaders asked the county returning officer to brief media so that residents are not left in the dark.
“Residents have been left in the dark and they are anxious, they want to know the outcome. Too much anxiety can cause chaos. The residents need to be informed,” said KANU senatorial aspirant Samuel Poghisio.
The leaders decided to address the residents who had camped outside the tallying centre demanding to know why their results had delayed and yet neighbouring counties had announced their results.
“Let’s remain calm and allow IEBC to complete its work. We have been informed that results have been delayed due to heavy rains that have impounded the region,” said KANU gubernatorial aspirant John Lonyangapuo.
Provision results at 7.00 pm on Wednesday showed that Lonyangapuo was leading by 81,805 votes while his opponent Simon Kachapin ( Jubilee) had 59,393 votes.
Poghisio was leading with 85,942 followed by Julius Murgor 54,554 votes.
He said results are from 664 polling stations out of 712.
At the County tallying centre in Mtelo hall nothing was going on and IEBC officials were waiting for results from four constituencies.
Poghisio said the current governor should come out and declare defeat to.
Lonyangapuo asked them to continue maintaining peace so that the County cannot experience any chaos.
“IEBC should speed up the process and continue updating residents on the process. This is what we call human management. This is the most peaceful count and we don’t want to raise tension,” he said.
