Contractors working on different roads funded by the national and County governments in West Pokot County are on the spot and have been faulted for doing shoddy jobs coupled with corruption. Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto has urged contractors who have been awarded road contracts to ensure the work is completed within the stipulated time frame.
He said that they won’t pay contractors who fall short of completing their work and engaging in other malpractices. “They need to execute their services to satisfaction. We will not entertain people sleeping on their jobs,” he said. He said they’ll revoke the terms of lazy contractors and that they’ll be blacklisted.
Speaking during the public participation of the construction of Murkwijit-Talau-Aramaget-Kapenguria, Mawingo–Makutano-Tilak-Kapkoris-Chepareria, Kapenguria-Siyoi-Chepyoman in Kapenguria at a cost of Kshs 500 million by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, (KeRRA) Moroto said he has received complaints concerning contractors who haven’t completed their work. “There are those we gave contracts and have not done anything. We will not entertain contractors who fail to offer quality service, we want serious and honest contractors who meet the expected national standards and specifications,” he said.
The legislator in particular faulted the contractor working on the Tilak-Chelewo-Konas road. He warned that contractors who do shoddy jobs will not be considered for future projects by the government and advised contractors who were awarded tenders to ensure they deliver if they wished to be considered for future projects by the government.
