The Kapsabet-Nandi water and sanitation company (KANAWASCO) is on the spot over shoddy work done for a water project in Tindiret constituency Nandi county. Speaking during a public participation forum in his constituency, Tindiret member of parliament Hon Julius Melly along with the North Rift economic Bloc(NOREB) CEO Dr Dominic Biwott and MCA’s from the region criticized the company for conducting poor work.
Melly who was very angry with the contractor at the site, cited that he was very embarrassed and disgusted with the water company for doing a very shoddy job on Kipkoil-Kimatkei water project where millions of money have been spent yet the residents cannot get access to the water.
The legislator demanded the county government of Nandi to ensure it supervises project works until it meets the required construction standards.
“I request the county government of Nandi through the ministry of water and sanitation to be more vigilant and serious with this water project to ensure residents get water on time,” he added.
He revealed that the contractor on the site working on this water project replaced the water pipes with the old ones a situation which has raised eye brows among the residents who demand answers from the government on why the project has been dragged for that long without any completion.
“The county government of Nandi should be more serious with this water project for them to have value for money and win the trust of the development partners. The water project which is funded by the Kenya Water Trust Fund in partnership with the county government of Nandi, has stagnated for long despite the huge amount of money assigned to the project being utilized.
Leaders from across the region have called for a speedy investigation into the project to establish what went wrong and the contractor to take responsibility.
