Kapsabet Boys High School students in partnership with the Nandi County government of and the National Environmental Management Authority(NEMA) have today carried out a clean up exercise in Kapsabet town in a bid to sensitize the public on the importance of keeping the environment clean.
The exercise was officially flagged off by the Nandi Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei at Kapsabet Boys High in Namgoi then the procession headed to town.
Speaking to the press at Kapsabet town market where they did the exercise, Nandi County speaker Joshua Kiptoo said that it was good to be part of the initiative and urged residents to maintain high standards of environmental cleanliness.
He lauded the efforts made by the management of the school management to come up with such an initiative, assuring them of the County government’s support.
The CEC for Lands, Environment, and Natural Resources in Nandi Dr. John Chumo applauded the Environment Cabinet Secretary Judy Wakhungu for upholding the decision to ban plastic bags. He said the ban will help to clear drainage systems across the country, which had been continuously blocked by plastic bags.
County Director of Environment Mr. Vincent Maira said after two or three months the plastic bags menace will be dealt with since residents have already adapted to the new system.
