The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have kicked off well in all 52 examination centers in Lugari and Matete Sub Counties with a total of 4,544 candidates sitting the examination.
The well-guarded container storing the examination papers at Lumakanda headquarter was opened by the area Deputy County Commissioner William Lenaremo in the presence of the area Sub county Education Director Magdalene Igwatai, her TSC counterpart Debora Ong’iti and security team at exactly 6:00am and by 6:45am all center managers, who are respective secondary school principals, had picked day one exam papers.
In a brief address to the center managers before picking the papers Lenaremo urged them to strictly follow examination principles throughout the examination period and ensure no single incident of irregularities is reported in the area.
The Sub-County Teachers Service Commission Director Deborah Ong’iti urged teachers and parents to ignore purported evidence of exam leakage on social media calling on the exam supervisors and school heads including teachers of the 34 secondary schools in the Sub-County to deliver credible exams.
She maintained that concentrating on such kind of misleading social media materials could distort candidate’s minds and thereafter lead to delivering questionable results.
The Sub-County TSC Director called on exam centre managers, exam supervisors, the invigilators together with security officers to work as a team to ensure KCSE candidates are given ample time during their exam period.
Magdalene Igwatai, the Sub-County Director of Education, directed that strangers should not be allowed in all the 35 exam centers in the Sub-County.
Igwatai however asked schools undergoing Competence Based Curriculum classroom construction to allow regular contractors and their teams continue with their work if they have enough resources.
She said the CBC classroom contractors were working under limited time and resources which calls for maximum support from school managements.
In Matete Sub-County, a total of 1508 candidates will be taking KCSE exams with 859 boys and 649 girls in 17 approved KNEC centres according to the Sub-County Director of Education Tom Oluoch.
