Three people have been arrested in West Pokot County after they were found impersonating KCSE candidates. The suspects, one from Pokot Central Sub County and two from West Pokot Sub County were caught on Tuesday pretending to be bonafide registered candidates.
Two of the three were sitting for the exams at Mtelo examination centre, while one was at Father Leo Staples examination centre.
Martin Towelo Mnangat was arrested for sitting the English paper 1 and 2 for Daniel Pkito Lolem, John Krop did the same exam papers for Wilson Loriono, and Gideon Opara did the papers for Daniel Kibet.
The three were taken to Kapenguria police station, where they are in custody, waiting to be arraigned in court.
Confirming the incident West Pokot Sub County commissioner Khalif Abdulai said the invigilators discovered the passport photos of the registered candidates’ were not similar to the suspects’ faces when they were supervising the exams.
“We have arrested three people posing as the registered candidates but they are actually doing exams for their relatives. When the invigilator identified the suspects, that is when he called for their arrest,” said Khaliff.
He said the suspects will be charged according to the relevant examinations laws and cautioned the KCSE candidates in the entire County to avoid exam malpractices during this exam period.
“We are very much alert, the exams should be done fairly without cases of irregularities, those who will be caught will be taken to court,” he added.
Police officers are pursuing the registered candidates and when arrested will be arraigned in court.
In another case, a female adult education candidate from St Annes Chelopoi secondary school in Pokot North Sub County is doing her exams at Kapenguria County Hospital maternity ward after experiencing labour pains during her exam at Mtelo hall examination centre.
