Kenya has confirmed 114 new Coronavirus cases out of 1,682 tested samples. The total positive cases have now reached 34,315 as of Tuesday evening. Speaking to the press during the daily briefing, Health CAS Rashid Aman said of these cases, 93 are male and 21 are female, while the youngest is a 1 year old child and the oldest 85 years old.
318 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, 263 under the home based care and 55 from hospitals, with the total recoveries now at 20,211. No death has been reported in the last day, with fatalities still at 577. Mombasa County has registered the highest number of cases, with 17, followed by Nairobi with 16. Garissa has 15, Kiambu has 14, Kitui has 14, Busia has 12, Taita Taveta has 8, Uasin Gishu has 6, Nyeri has 5, Migori has 3, Machakos has 2, Embu has 1 and Kisumu has 1.
Taking into account the declining positive cases an concerns by the WHO over the same, CAS Aman said contact tracing has been a challenge in some areas. The WHO had called for caution over the decline in cases, pointing out contact tracing. “Issues raised have validity.” He said contact tracing may not be as effective in some places, especially in some hotspots like Nairobi.
However, he said the positivity rate must be scrutinized in a broader manner and that other countries in Sub Saharan Africa are reporting a decline in positive Covid-19 cases, “It seems to be a parallel with what is happening in these other countries.” He urged Kenyans to not let their guard down, and keep observing the infection prevention measures.
