With fears of a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kenya, the Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed 538 new cases, bringing the total number of positive cases to to 41,158. The cases were picked from 6,872 samples tested in the last 24 hours, with cumulative tests now at 586,911.
In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 496 are Kenyans and 42 are foreigner, with 430 being males and 108 females. The youngest is a one year old child and the oldest is 85 years old.
61 people have recovered from the disease within the last day, 40 from the home based care program, while 21 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 30,937. The fatalities have risen to 760 after 5 more patients succumbed to the virus.
During his visit to Trans Nzoia on Thursday, Health CAS Rashid Aman said infections in Counties that initially recorded low numbers have increased, and it’s evident going by Saturday’s press release as Bungoma’s positive cases have shot up. Nairobi has recorded the most cases with 157, and Bungoma County follows with 118. Nakuru has 48, Turkana has 41, Mombasa has 33, Kilifi has 31, Uasin Gishu has 16, Kisumu has 13, Kisii has 12, Meru has 12, Garissa and Trans Nzoia have 9 each. Narok, Kiambu have 8 each, Kakamega has 6 cases, Isiolo has 4, Kwale has 3, Nyamira, Migori, Kitui have 2 cases each, and Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet and Marsabit have 1 case each.
