The latest Fifa rankings has confirmed Kenya’s Harambee Stars budging up 43 places to the 86th position which were released on Thursday.
The move follows Kenya’s 2-1 win over Congo in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Nairobi last month.
FKF president Nick Mwendwa was a happy man after the results.
“We are very happy with the new development and what we need now is consistency,” said Mwendwa.
“Imagine we have moved 43 places up with just one match. Imagine what we can achieve in the coming years if we create a culture of responsibility, accountability and hard work.”
“It’s been work in progress and as a federation we are happy things are working according to our plans and we hope to maintain the tempo,” he added.
However, the national team coach, Stanley Okumbi, was elated on learning about the new developments.
“It’s been a long time since Kenya were ranked in the top 100 teams. I believe we are on the right path and we will continue working hard to ensure we remain consistent,” Okumbi noted.
Uganda lead the region at position 69, Rwanda 111, Tanzania 123, Burundi 125, Ethiopia 132, Sudan 142 and South Sudan 153.
