The Naitiri Bunge la Mwananchi in Tongaren constituency held a session to discuss various key issues in the society that Kenya Kwanza government led by President William Ruto need to address in order to improve the living standards of Kenyans.
Led by the chairperson Samson Kilong’i the group discussed various key issues that affect common citizens who languish in poverty with the current high cost of living across the country urging the new government to lower the cost of living in the country.
The pertinent issues discussed were poverty elimination, equality, social justice, access to clean water, housing, public participation on key issues regarding governance, promoting agricultural sector, health, education, good road networks and creating more job opportunities for the youths.
Agriculture being the key income source of income in Tongaren constituency, they asked the government to come up with measures to stabilize the sector by enhancing access to agricultural funds, reducing the cost of farming and crop growing in order to produce food stuff in surplus.
The county government of Bungoma has to come up with a milk processing firm in Tongaren to create market for the cattle rearing farmers to sell their milk, earn income and get fees for their children and provide other basic needs for their families.
Education sector was not left behind; the Competence Based Curriculum CBC is to be improved on its implementation being termed as expensive with majority supporting the 8.4.4 system. They emphasized on the need for equality in the allocation for bursary funds in order to benefit the needy students.
With the high cost accessing medical care services in the country, Naitiri Sub-County hospital needs to be upgraded from level 4 to 5 in to enable locals access quality and affordable medical care services than seeking the services from other facilities in neighbouring counties like Trans Nzoia.
The constituency has poor road network, Bunge la Mwananchi called upon area Member of Parliament John Chikati together with county government and tarmac a number of impassable roads in order to promote business activities in the constituency.
