The Kenya Plantations and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU) branch secretary for Nandi Eliakim Ochieng has been elected unopposed for the second time to serve in the same capacity for another 5 years. The election which was conducted in Nandi hills was overseen by the Nandi County labour officer Mrs Joyce Mais and COTU observer Mr Joshua Oyuga. Ochieng was elected by members in an election that was conducted according to KPAWU constitution.
Speaking after his re-election, Ochieng lauded all the workers who participated in the election, pledging that they’ll work together as a team. “I will ensure that workers grievances and demands are met fully by the multi national companies who have continued to ignore the workers plight,” he affirmed.
Ochieng being the ( KPAWU) Nandi county branch secretary had shown good leadership in his first tenure and fought for the rights of workers. The Kenya Plantation and Agricultural workers Union( KPAWU) is a union which represents agricultural sector workers in Kenya including the tea, coffee and flower workers.
