The National Government, through the Ministry of Health, has assured Kenyans that it is set to launch a new health insurance program, known as SHA, scheduled for rollout on October 1st of this year.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa and other senior officials from the ministry, preparations for this launch are progressing well, with registration of Kenyans continuing. They anticipate finalizing all arrangements approximately two weeks before the launch date.
So far, only 1.2 million families have registered for the new insurance scheme, following the discontinuation of the previous NHIF program. However, officials remain optimistic that this number will increase significantly as the launch date approaches.
In a related discussion, Muthomi Njuki, the Chairperson of the Health Committee in the Council of Governors, emphasized the need for the ministry to collaborate with governors and other stakeholders to develop innovative strategies that will encourage more Kenyans to enroll in the insurance scheme before its launch.
As the date draws near, the Ministry of Health is committed to making health coverage accessible and beneficial for all Kenyans, ensuring that more families can secure their health and wellbeing.
