The Kenya Under17 national football team started their 2016 COSAFA campaign on the wrong footing after being humiliated by a 4-0 thrashing against Zambia in the Group B opener on Friday morning at the St. Francis Xavier, Port Louis Stadium in Mauritius.
The Zambians were obviously the better side as they started scoring early in the match and dismantled the Kenyan team tactics from the onset of the match.
Nicholas Mullilo opened the scoring in the 4th minute after capitalizing on a defensive move by the Kenyan keeper George Oums before again registering a brace in the 13th minute from close range managing to beat the Kenyan defence.
The young Chipolopolo side was not done as Damillo Kola snatched the third goal in the 37th minute before Nkunda Kadu completed the rout in the 43rd minute to hand the Zambians a huge lead into the break.
The second half was different ballgame altogether as the Kenyans fought hard though the Zambians remained resolute in defence to ensure that the Kenyans did not penetrate to get even a goal.
The Junior Stars were however impressive and also managed to seal off their defence for a 4-0 score line at the final whistle.
Kenya’s next match is against Madagascar on July 23rd at the Port Louis Stadium in Mauritius.
