Kenyan teams dominated this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports which ended on Monday in Mbale and Bukedea districts in Eastern Uganda.
Kenya bagged gold in Boys’ 3×3 basketball (Friends School Kamusinga), Girls 3×3 basketball (Butere ), rugby 15s (All Saints Embu), rugby 7s (Vihiga Boys), Girls’ rugby 7s (St Joseph’s Kitale Girls), Boys’ hockey (Musingu High), Girls’ hockey (St Joseph’s Kitale Girls) and Girls’ volleyball (Kesogon).
The teams that won silver were Nyamira (girls’ hockey), St Charles Lwanga (boys’ hockey), Friends School Bwake (boys’ rugby 7s), Kinale Girls (girls’ rugby 7s) and Kwanthanze (girls’ volleyball).
Musingu High (boys’ football), Nyakach Girls (girls’ football), St Luke’s Kimilili (boys’ handball), Tigoi Girls (hockey) and St Joseph’s Kitale (girls 3×3 basketball) bagged bronze medals.
Friends School Kamusinga lifted boys’ 3×3 basketball after a narrow 14-13 victory over Uganda’s Seroma Christian School with Shadrack Omariba being voted the Most Valuable Player.
Butere Girls shined in the girls’ 3×3 basketball final after defeating St Noa Girls from Uganda 17-15 in a thrilling final at Amus College with Butere’s Daisy Awino being voted the Most Valuable Player.
It was sweet revenge for Kesogon Mixed who shined against national champions Kwanthanze in girls’ volleyball winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, and 25-17).
In girls’ hockey, St Joseph’s Kitale Girls beat Mushanga 7-0 in their last match to lift the title while Tigoi concluded their games with a 6-1 triumph against Bweranyangi in a game that was played at Mbale School of Hygiene.
Moi Girls Kamusinga settled for fourth place in girls’ handball after losing 24-16 against Mbogo High from Uganda. Kibuli Secondary from Uganda emerged winners after beating Gombe 32-25.
In the boys’ handball playoff, St Luke’s Kimilili defeated compatriots Hospital Hill 16-14 to finish third.
In boys’ football, Kenya’s Musingu High claimed third place with a narrow 3-2 win over Bukedea Comprehensive School.
Amus College beat St Mary’s Kitende 1-0 to lift the football title.
In the girls’ football playoff, Nyakach Girls popularly known as Plateau Queens, finished third after an 8-7 penalty shootout win over Amus College after a 2-2 draw.
Uganda’s St Noa bagged gold by beating Butere 1-0 in the final.
St Joseph’s Kitale Girls bagged the bronze medal after a narrow 14-12 win over St Mary’s Kitende from Uganda in the third-place playoff.
Kenya also won both the overall titles in athletics.
International Schools Federation (ISF) president Laurent Petrynka graced the games as Kenya prepares to host the next year’s event.
