Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has listed 35 Constituency Roads in Busia County in its annual public roads programme (APRP) routine maintenance for the financial year 2018/2019. In an advert feature, KeRRA said the roads maintenance programme will be undertaken by National Roads Agencies in the FY 2018/2019 through Roads maintenance levy fund (RMLF).
Five roads will be rehabilitated in Teso South including Amukura-Segero, Tangakona-Akites, Buteba- Adungosi. In Teso North the roads include Malakisi-Kimaet, Ang’aro-Malinda, Ang’urai-Aloete Primary School and Kotur-Bitobo.
The roads in Nambale include Mungatsi-Buyofu, Kimaet-Mungatsi, Segero-Lugulu, Kisoko-Mungatsi and Musokoto-Buyofu. Butula roads are: Bumala- Ejinja, Lugulu-Butula, Bumala-DB-Siaya, Lugulu-Siribo and Siribo-Bukhuyi.
In Funyula, the roads include Hakati-Bumala, Mumbaka-Okados, Nangina-Sigalame, Sigalame-Sio port, Sio port-Mumbaka and Nangina-Ganjala.
The roads in Budalangi include Mabinju-Unyu, Makunda-Ruambwa Mkt, Runyu-Makunda, Ruambwa-Magombe, Ruambwa-Hakati, Magombe-Boro and Okados-Mundere.
KeRRA has set aside Kshs 12.4 billion for the rehabilitation of rural roads across the country with Kshs 149 million to be spent on Busia roads.
Kenya National Highway Authority has also set aside Kshs 20 billion for annual maintenance and Kshs 2.1 billion for development. The Highway Authority has allocated Kshs 198.7 million for improvement works on Webuye, Malaba, Eldoret road and Kshs 174.6 million for Kisumu, Busia, Isebania road. Kenya has classified road maintenance of 161,451 km.
Roads under the County government have already undergone routine maintenance. “We need signposts on all the roads done by the County government so as exonerate the County from blame whenever KeRRA roads become impassable,” a Busia resident Dan Luchu said.
