Lurambi Member of Parliament Titus Khamala has raised concerns over Kenya’s heavy reliance on payment of salaries emphasizing the imperative for a shift towards production-driven policies.
Khamala has stressed the need to mitigate the increasing wage bill with many Kenyans going for formal employment.
The law maker has called for Kenyans to be creative and ensure a sustainable future for the nation.
He has also asked parastatals to streamline operations and amalgamating functions, authorities aim to alleviate the burden of the wage bill.
Khamala also said there is a sign of relief to cane farmers following the intervention by President William Ruto and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to suspend the taxation that was being imposed on cane farmers.
However, he critiqued Parliament for its handling of the finance bill saying they hurriedly passed the bill before making sufficient scrutiny.
He said there is a growing demand for lawmakers to exercise prudence and diligence in their legislative responsibilities, ensuring that the interests of Kenyans are duly considered and safeguarded.
