Likuyani MP Dr. Enock Kibunguchy has bitterly condemned the County government of Kakamega’s decision to convert Likuyani sub county hospital into a COVID–19 a quarantine Centre.
Addressing mourners during the burial of Ufunua Number One West FM salaams club member Mr. Jackson Makunda Chilande at Number one village in his constituency, Kibunguchy said the move has affected normal services at the facility thus endangering lives of Likuyani residents.
He regretted how residents were being forced to walk long distances to seek medical services in smaller dispensaries which are not offering all required services.
More so he said it was disappointing how the COVID-19 positive patients were sneaking from the hospital and freely interacting with unsuspecting residents thus endangering their lives.
Dr. Kibunguchy questioned the criteria used in picking Likuyani hospital to be a quarantine center saying they should have picked a hospital that is centrally placed so that it can receive patients from all corners.
“Majority of patients here are from Mumias, Matungu and Butere we don’t have Likuyani people there. I want to tell Governor Oparanya, please, don’t be the one carrying the death of Likuyani residents in your hands. We only depend on this hospital,” said Kibunguchy adding that it was regrettable that since the inception of devolution the County government of Kakamega has not added even a single structure at the hospital.
