Kibunguchy donates food and other basic items to floods victims in Likuyani

About 150 victims of floods in Likuyani Sub County received a donation of an assortment of food items and other basics from the area MP Dr.  Enoch Kibunguchy. 

Speaking at the Joy Baptized church where the victims have sort refuge, Kibunguchy expressed his disappointment with the difficult situation the families were going through after being displaced from their homes in Lupele village Soy sub location after Kipsangui stream broke its bank.

Kibunguchy  said it is unfortunate that majority of the victims practiced farming and as a result have suffered double tragedy.

“Apart from being displaced, the victims are also counting loses because their crops and farm equipment have either been swept away or destroyed by the floods,” said Kibunguchy.

During the event Kibunguchy donated bags of maize, cooking oil, clothes, body jelly, cooking utensils and Kshs. 20,000 among other necessities.

The MP appealed to the national government’s through the ministry of devolution as well as the county government of Kakamega to intervene and help the victims who for the last 10 days have been accommodated at the Likuyani PEFA and Joy Baptized churches.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Kakamega branch treasurer Mr. Wycliffe Mmboku Kisingula at total of 34 families with a population of 150 people were displaced with the number likely to increase due to the ongoing rains.

Thanking Kibunguchy for his personal donation, the displaced persons chairman Pastor Japheth Mulati also appealed for more humanitarian support from both the National and county government of Kakamega as well as well-wishers.
