Likuyani MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy has urged the ministry of education to handle with great care increased cases of indiscipline and fire incidents in school to avoid causing more crisis.
Speaking in his constituency, Kibunguchy opposed the proposal by cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha to reintroduce canning in schools as a mode of instilling discipline to students saying if not well handled may cause more conflict between teachers and students.
“We have seen students attacking unarmed teachers who are trying to correct them verbally, what if such students are canned it might be disastrous,” said Kibunguchy.
He said the current students in high school have gone through primary schools without being canned and reintroducing canning without proper measure may lead to more strikes especially in secondary schools.
The Likuyani lawmaker has proposed the formation of a task force to dig deeper into the incidents and established the root cause of unrest in schools.
He has also proposed more guiding and counselling sessions in schools.
