Likuyani MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy has promised to reward all candidates who scored minimum university entry points in last year’s KCSE examinations in his constituency. Speaking at Matunda Salvation Army Mixed Day Secondary School, Kibunguchy promised to give each candidate who scored C+ and above Kshs. 20, 000 once they receive admission letters.
He said the cash will help with their shopping as they prepare to join university adding that this was also a way of motivating other candidates to do better in their final examinations.
Initially, the MP has been giving Kshs 10,000 to all candidates who scored minimum university entry points and has doubled the amount starting this year for last year’s candidates.
He said Matunda SA secondary school alone will receive a total of Kshs. 1.3 million after 65 candidates scored C+ and above. Apart from the cash Kibunguchy also promised to give a laptop to all candidates who managed grade B+ and above in last year’s KCSE examinations “Our tradition over the years will still continue this year and it will be
different from the past where I gave a laptop to each candidate who scored A plain, this year all those who scored B+ and above will each get a laptop from Kibunguchy and his wife,” said the MP.
Elsewhere, Kibunguchy advised candidates who didn’t manage to score grades that would enable them to join university to join other tertiary colleges promising to support those who will join Kongoni Technical Training Institute which is set to be opened soon in the Sub County.
At the same time, the MP promised to prioritize education disclosing that already a total of Kshs. 4.5million had been set aside in the first phase for bursary. He said each of the five wards will receive Ksh. 900, 000 which should be strictly given to secondary school students adding that those in colleges and universities will be factored in the second
phase.
Kibunguchy used the opportunity to thank Matunda SA secondary school for posting a sterling performance over the years by topping the northern part of Kakamega County and taking the highest number of candidates to university.
He promised to set aside enough money for the completion of storey classrooms at the day school and ensure it had enough classrooms for the high number of students.
Apart from Matunda SA he also pledged to improve infrastructure in all schools within the Sub County to create a conducive learning environment for both teachers and students.
