Likuyani MP Enoch Kibunguchy has said the attack that led to the death of his driver on Sunday night was a clear attempt on his life. Speaking to the press in Soy, Kibunguchy said he clearly was the target, “According to me, am convinced the bullet that killed Douglas was meant for me,” he said. Gangsters shot and killed his driver, Douglas Wakacha, on Sunday night outside a hotel in Soy market. They had stopped over at Highway motel, and the driver had gone back to the vehicle when the gangsters attacked.
Kibunguchy noted that there had been a lot of acrimony since the last elections, with petitions in Kakamega and Kisumu. However, he said whoever is trying to take his life will neither be Likuyani MP nor advance any corrupt agenda, “There are some people who think Kibunguchy is an impediment to some things they want to do especially given that there is forest land here. It will never happen because there are too many Kibunguchys who’ll come up and protect the rights of the people,” he said.
The driver’s body was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Western Region Deputy Police chief Leonard Omolo confirmed that the gang shot at the vehicle while Kibunguchy was still upstairs, and said they suspected it was a targeted attack on the Likuyani MP.
