A new opinion poll suggests that Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, and businesswoman Esther Passaris would win the governor and Women Representative posts respectively should elections be held today.
This comes from a new survey that has shown them ahead of others in their competition for the top county seats.
Governor Kidero would garner 36% of the total votes followed by Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, who would gather only 30% of the votes, shows the latest poll released by research firm (TIFA) Trends and Insights for Africa.
“It is clearly a two horse race. Those new entrants who have thrown their hat into the ring have still not garnered enough support to become the third horse,” said Maggie Ireri, Director, TIFA Research.
The opinion poll released Monday, August 8, also shows Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa would only get 1% of the votes. 17% of the voters, however, remain undecided.
Other hopefuls for the seat – MPs Johnson Sakaja (nominated) and Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti) and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru at 3% each.
The poll which involved 719 respondents residing in the city showed that Passaris would collect 28% of the votes for the Women rep position to beat incumbent Racheal Shebesh who would manage 20% of the total votes cast.
However, 43% of Nairobians have not yet decided whom to vote for as their Women Representative
Kiambu Governor William Kabogo will have to work harder to retain his seat, according to the survey, which puts Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu on the lead.Mr. Waititu would gather a popularity of 49% lead while his rival Mr.Kabogo would collect only 22%.
In Machakos, Dr. Mutua has 81 per cent support followed by Senator Johnson Muthama’s 8 per cent.Wavinya Ndeti has 5 per cent popularity and Bernard Kiala has 3 per cent in the Machakos governor’s race.
Both Cord and Jubilee coalitions have an equal share of supporters in Nairobi at 38% each, shows the poll which was funded by TIFA.
However, the newly formed Jubilee party has more numbers at 25% followed by ODM at 21%.
